Kevin McLatchy was born and raised in Newton a suburb of Boston, MA. Besides being an artist, his checkerboard career has included library work, college art teaching, owning a gallery, semi-pro hockey, and the delivery of live eels to Europe.
Kevin received a Studio Diploma from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts School, Boston, where he studied with Barnet Rubenstein, and a M.F.A from the Massachusetts College of Art, were he received further input from George Nick. He also credits a pastel workshop with Wolf Kahn as being very helpful.
As a young child in the 1950's, he saw a Life magazine pictorial of Jackson Pollack doing a drip painting. The flow of energy from Pollack's work made a lasting impression on him. His other influences include French painting of the early and mid-twentieth century, particularly Pierre Bonnard , Albert Marquet and Nicholas de Stael. American painters of influence have included John Twachtman, Edwin Dickinson and Joan Mitchell.
His work has been exhibited at Boston Symphony Hall, the Compton Gallery at M.I.T, the Erie Art Museum, and the Butler Institute of American Art, as well as various academic and private galleries throughout the Northeast.
He currently lives in Western Pennsylvania with his wife Patricia, who is a sculptor, and their son Niles who loves to draw and make scientific discoveries.
At Niagra Falls, 2007
